Off Campus Involvement

Below is a list of the organizations that I am involved in on Clemson's campus. I believe that I am happiest when I am busy and being involved in a lot of different activities helps me with time management.

YMCA Afterschool Counselor

Easley County Location

I started a part time position at the YMCA in the spring of 2015. I was done with my classes everyday at noon and decided that I wanted the change of balancing a part time job along with school. This has become one of the best decisions that I have ever made. We have around one hundred children at the Easley location and have satelite locations all throughout the upstate. Throughout the day we transport them from school, help them with their homework, deliver a healthy snack, and are constantly engaging with them. The YMCA believes that children behave their best when they are stimulated so we are always playing organized games and are constantly encouraging them to become involved. This part time job has taught me so many life lessons. It first has proved that I am happiest when I am busy. I have found the best ways to communicate with other people that are very unlike me and how to be a better listener. At the Easley YMCA a large percentage of children have dealt with abuse or broken homes or are involved with DSS, I have learned so many values from these children.

TWIG 2015 Hospitality Leader

Together We Impact Greenwood

June 29-July 4, 2015

Every few years my town of Greenwood, SC hosts a mission trip called TWIG, which stands for together we impact Greenwood. This mission trip is unique because it is not in a far away place but the logic is that small towns need help just like third world countries. The camp takes place at Greenwood High School, where 350-400 teenagers from around the country come to help out the community. These teenagers mostly perform minor repairs on homes and spend time with the families that live there. This year TWIG has a group coming froming as fair as Ontario, Canada. I have the honor of serving as one of the hospitality leaders for the camp, which includes making sure that the campers feel at home and are welcomed into the community. There are at least two large events  throughout the week that both show the campers how grateful we are and show the culture of our community.

Above is a picture of a group of volunteers for the TWIG cookout that we hosted the first evening when the campers finally made it to Greenwood.

New Orleans Mission trip

Spring 2013

During the spring of 2013 I spent my spring break with the Fellowship of Christian Atheletes in New Orleans, Lousiana. We spent the week performing minor home repairs, helping out local organizations, and giving food to the homeless. I met the most interesting people and will never forget their fascinating stories.

PAWS Volunteer
 Puerto Rico Mission Trip

Summer 2012

During the summer of 2010 I had the great oppurtunity to visit Puerto Rico for a mission trip. This week was called the "Week of Hope", and it focused mainly on spending time with a nursing home in the city of San Juan. We spent the week with the residents and performed minor repairs. I loved this trip becuase my dad attended as one of the chaperones, I will remember this experience for a lifetime.

Every semester I visit the PAWS animal shelter in Anderson county. We spend the day caring for the animals, feeding and washing dogs, and interacting with the animals that we can not get out of the cages by giving them treats.
